Rome at a glance

Rome's film industry still revolves around Cinecittà, a studio with more than 80 years behind it and more than 20 soundstages, recently expanded with EU recovery funds and topped by the new Teatro 22, plus permanent sets, a backlot, virtual production and in-house post. Around it, the regional Roma Lazio Film Commission connects visiting productions with crews, companies and locations through its production guide and local media desks.

music videos in Rome

The Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, designed by Renzo Piano and run by the Fondazione Musica per Roma, is the main concert complex, with the Santa Cecilia, Sinopoli and Petrassi halls, an outdoor cavea and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia as a resident institution. On the rock side, Måneskin formed in Rome in 2016, sharpened their sound busking on the city's streets and won Eurovision for Italy in 2021 with "Zitti e buoni".

commercials in Rome

Cinecittà says its stages were kept busy through 2022 and 2023 by films, TV series and commercials, about 70 percent of them international productions. The Roma Lazio Film Commission's permit support request covers commercials and music videos alongside features and series, so a short-form job gets the same help finding the right office.

locations and light

The historic centre carries around 3,000 years of history, from ancient Rome through the Renaissance and Baroque, while the EUR district offers rationalist architecture built for a 1942 world expo that never took place, including the arched Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the "Square Colosseum" that now houses Fendi's headquarters. EUR alone has appeared in more than 25 films and series, from La dolce vita to Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World.

Permits come from whoever controls the location: the city for streets and occupation of public ground, and the heritage superintendencies and site managers for monuments and protected areas. The Roma Lazio Film Commission does not issue permits itself, but it identifies the right authority, explains the procedure and makes contact with municipalities and agencies for the production.
